Foundry Business and Market Trend Report | April 2023

May 31, 2023

Key Takeaways:

TSMC 3/4/5nm Status Updates:

  • TSMC's N3 demand remains positive, ensuring full utilization through 2Q23. N4/5 also maintains momentum, leading to increased utilization in 2Q23. Additionally, the growing demand for server chips from Nvidia and Ampere keeps N6/7 utilization on the rise in 2Q23.

ASML EUV Shipment Updates:

  • Despite ASML claims that the EUV shipments in Y2023 will be approximately 60 units and that they will surpass this number in Y2024 due to positive orders, we still have made conservative forecasts in Y2023~Y2024 because of the slowdown of capacity expansion and the unclear booking numbers for 2H24.

SiC and GaN Market Analysis:

  • The requirement of compound semiconductor is critical to the growing demand of power and RF devices especially for automotive/EV and industrial application. Market penetration rate may have significant growth in coming years on the SiC and GaN related devices.

Smartphone AP Procurement Forecast in Y2023:

  • We expect smartphone AP procurement units to decrease by 15~18% YoY to 1,110~1,140mn units in Y2023 from 1,330~1,360mn units due to the sluggish demand in the global smartphone market and high AP inventory level.
